I redesigned the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s brand to better reflect its mission of promoting community wellness through recreation, open space, and natural resources. The previous identity lacked consistency and didn’t fully express the county’s diversity, energy, or environmental focus.
The new system creates a modern, cohesive identity centered on connection, inclusivity, and accessibility, with a visual focus on nature, movement, and community.
The refreshed brand improves recognition, strengthens consistency, and better represents the department’s role in connecting neighborhoods, protecting green spaces, and supporting active lifestyles across Mecklenburg County.

What it Represent
-
Mecklenburg County logo needs a modern, clean, and simple design that brings all elements together in a minimal and cohesive way. The focus should be on clarity, using a refined shape, limited color palette, and sleek typography to create a timeless and professional look.
-
The current logo shows a solid foundation, and there’s a good opportunity to improve it; with better alignment, more balanced spacing, and a slightly simplified layout. The design needs to feel more modern and visually consistent while still respecting the original idea and intent behind it.
-
Mecklenburg County offers plenty of activities for all kinds of interests; like walking trails, picnicking, relaxing by lakes, enjoying playgrounds, biking, kayaking etc.
Popular spots like Freedom Park and Reedy Creek Nature Center are perfect for spending time outdoors, while places like U.S. National Whitewater Center offer adventure and entertainment.
Families can also explore summer camps, interactive museums like Discovery Place Science, and a variety of recreational programs, making the county a vibrant destination with something for everyone.
